Stories worth $haring #14 : How do you choose to suffer ?

0

Everybody wants what feels good. Everyone wants to live a carefree, happy and easy life, to fall in love and have amazing sex and relationships, to look perfect and make money and be popular and well-respected and admired and a total baller to the point that people part like the Red Sea when you walk into the room.

Everyone would like that—it’s easy to like that.

If I ask you, “What do you want out of life?” and you say something like, “I want to be happy and have a great family and a job I like,” it’s so ubiquitous that it doesn’t even mean anything.

A more interesting question, a question that perhaps you’ve never considered before, is what pain do you want in your life? What are you willing to struggle for? Because that seems to be a greater determinant of how our lives turn out.

Everybody wants to have an amazing job and financial independence—but not everyone wants to suffer through 60-hour work weeks, long commutes, obnoxious paperwork, to navigate arbitrary corporate hierarchies and the blasé confines of an infinite cubicle hell. People want to be rich without the risk, without the sacrifice, without the delayed gratification necessary to accumulate wealth.

Everybody wants to have great sex and an awesome relationship—but not everyone is willing to go through the tough conversations, the awkward silences, the hurt feelings and the emotional psychodrama to get there. And so they settle. They settle and wonder “What if?” for years and years and until the question morphs from “What if?” into “Was that it?” And when the lawyers go home and the alimony check is in the mail they say, “What was that for?” if not for their lowered standards and expectations 20 years prior, then what for ? Stories worth $haring #13 : I married a Stranger

0

Forgive me, for the article is long ! But by the end you will realize its a masterpiece ! Learn & Live. Live & Learn.

Original Post: http://thelogicalindian.com/

I was on the bed, feeling terrified. I opened my diary and wrote, ‘I married a stranger’ and quickly hid it under the bed. My whole body was shaking.

“What do I do?” I questioned myself.
“Do I act like a virgin?”
” But what if he finds out? Do I tell him to wait for it for a few days? But what if it makes him angry?”

The front door opened and my heart jumped in my neck. I was breathing heavily. The sound of his footsteps gave me goosebumps. I looked down and pretended to be calm. I saw him stopping at the door though I wasn’t looking at him.

“Ghauri”, he said with ever-so-calm voice. I dared not to look at him.

“Ghauri, I am going to sleep in another room”, he said.

‘If your husband doesn’t want to sleep with you, you have failed as a wife’, echoed my mother’s voice in my head. But I didn’t look up. I stayed quiet.

“Don’t you want to ask me why?”, he said, with little humor in his voice, clearly trying to cheer me up.

I looked at him for just a few seconds and looked down again.
“You are my wife”, he said and paused, and then he continued, “not a prostitute.”
I really didn’t know what he meant as my mind wasn’t working well. ‘When you don’t know what to say to your husband, keep your mouth shut’ came back my father’s voice. I obeyed him as usual.

“If we sleep together when we really don’t know each other, what different you would be from a prostitute? We will sleep together someday, when both of us wants it, and that day, I’d be making love to my wife. I definitely won’t be having sex with a stranger.” Continue reading

Stories worth $haring #12 : The 100$ Conversation.

SON: “Daddy, may I ask you a question?”

DAD: “Yeah sure, what is it?”

SON: “Daddy, how much do you make an hour?”

DAD: “That’s none of your business. Why do you ask such a thing?”
SON: “I just want to know. Please tell me, how much do you make an hour?”
DAD: “If you must know, I make $100 an hour.”
SON: “Oh! (With his head down).
SON: “Daddy, may I please borrow $50?”
The father was furious.
DAD: “If the only reason you asked that is so you can borrow some money to buy a silly toy or some other nonsense, then you march yourself straight to your room and go to bed. Think about why you are being so selfish. I work hard everyday for such this childish behavior.”

The little boy quietly went to his room and shut the door. Continue reading

Stories worth $haring #6 : The Boiling Frog Syndrome.

2

If you throw a frog into a pot of boiling water, it will jump out of it instantly. Instead, put a frog in a vessel of cold water and start heating the water gently.

As temperature of the water rises, the frog is able to adjust its body temperature accordingly. The frog keeps on adjusting with increase in temperature.

Just when the water is about to reach boiling point, the frog is not able to adjust anymore. At that point the frog decides to jump out. The frog tries to jump but is unable to do so, because it has lost all its strength in adjusting with the rising water temperature.

Very soon the frog dies.

What killed the frog? Many of us would say, its the boiling water.
But the truth is what killed the frog was its own inability to decide when it had to jump out.

We all need to adjust with people and situations, but we need to be sure when we need to adjust and when we need to confront/face.

There are times when we need to face the situation and take the appropriate action. If we allow people to exploit us physically, mentally, emotionally or financially, they will continue to do so.

We have to decide when to jump. Realize before its late.
Let us jump while we still have the strength. Do not get yourself boiled to death.

Give it a thought !! I love this message every time I read.

ginormous#A Tractor maker’s advice

#Automobili Lamborghini

Once, there lived a boy in Italy named Ferrucio. Born to grape farmers in the Emilia-Romagna region, he was always more interested in the machines involved in farming rather than the activity itself. The family wasn’t exactly well off, but owing to his tremendous mechanical knowhow, he started manufacturing tractors; the business took off and made him a wealthy person indeed.

One day he decided to buy a Ferrari, a high powered sports car, to celebrate his success. It was early 60’s then.

He was the owner of a Ferrari now but noticed that Ferrari’s cars had inferior clutches, and he was also not too happy with their after sales service. He thought that it could be better and more than that, he thought he knew how to make it better.

So like a loyal Ferrari customer he went to the owner himself, Mr. Enzo Ferrari, with the hope of bringing these flaws to the great man’s attention.

He told him that he liked the Ferrari he had purchased but he had some suggestions on how to make it even better.

However, Ferrari was too arrogant. Enzo Ferrari looked at him and told him, he didn’t need a tractor owner’s advice to make high class sports cars.

Humiliated and Insulted, Ferrucio left the office, but decided to make better sports Cars. And in next four decades what he did is a history. That was how the Lamborghini brand of sports cars was born.

Ferrucio’s last name was Lamborghini.

Today, Lamborghini sports cars are much stronger, costlier and way better than Ferrari.

The sole reason of shifting his business from farm vehicles to super-power cars was Enzo Ferrari’s undermining words, “you stick to tractors and let me build sports cars.

Stories worth $haring #3 : Realities of Job

ginormous#Fictitious

#Well, this is the reality. For those taking up a job !

One day while walking down the street a highly successful Human Resources Manager was tragically hit by a bus and she died. Her soul arrived up in heaven where she was met at the Pearly Gates by St. Peter himself.

“Welcome to Heaven” said St. Peter. “Before you get settled in though, it seems we have a problem. You see, strangely enough, we’ve never once had a Human Resources Manager make it this far and we’re not really sure what to do with you.”

“No problem, just let me in,” said the woman.

“Well, I’d like to, but I have higher orders. What we’re going to do is let you have a day in Hell and a day in Heaven and then you can choose whichever one you want to spend an eternity in.”

“Actually, I think I’ve made up my mind, I prefer to stay in Heaven”, said the woman.

“Sorry, we have rules.”

And with that St. Peter put the executive in an elevator and it went down-down-down to hell.

The doors opened and she found herself stepping out onto the putting green of a beautiful golf course. In the distance was a country club and standing in front of her were all her friends – fellow executives that she had worked with and they were well dressed in evening gowns and cheering for her. They ran up and kissed her on both cheeks and they talked about old times. They played an excellent round of golf and at night went to the country club where she enjoyed an excellent steak and lobster dinner.

She met the Devil who was actually a really nice guy (kind Sof cute) and she had a great time telling jokes and dancing. She was having such a good time that before she knew it, it was time to leave. Everybody shook her hand and waved goodbye as she got on the elevator.

The elevator went up-up-up and opened back up at the Pearly Gates and found St. Peter waiting for her.

“Now it’s time to spend a day in heaven,” he said. So she spent the next 24 hours lounging around on clouds and playing the harp and singing. She had great time and before she knew it her 24 hours were up and St. Peter came and got her.

“So, you’ve spent a day in hell and you’ve spent a day in heaven. Now you must choose your eternity,”

The woman paused for a second and then replied, “Well, I never thought I’d say this, I mean, Heaven has been really great and all, but I think I had a better time in Hell.”

So St. Peter escorted her to the elevator and again she went down-down-down back to Hell.

When the doors of the elevator opened she found herself standing in a desolate wasteland covered in garbage and filth. She saw her friends were dressed in rags and were picking up the garbage and putting it in sacks.

The Devil came up to her and put his arm around her.

“I don’t understand,” stammered the woman, “yesterday I was here and there was a golf course and a country club and we ate lobster and we danced and had a great time. Now all there is a wasteland of garbage and all my friends look miserable.”

The Devil looked at her smiled and exhaled,

Yesterday we were recruiting you, today you’re an Employee“.
